“Hijaab comes from the Arabic word hijaaba: which means to conceal or hide. The next question might be, to what extent is the covering Allaah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) says in the Qur’aan:

“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that is purer for them. Verily, Allaah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands.” (The Qur’aan: Chapter 24, Verses 30-31)
